Timber Trade

M/s Abdul Sathar
India is likely to face severe shortage of supply of timber to meet its requirement from both domestic and international front. It is estimated that the demand for timber is likely to grow from 58 million cubic metres in 2005 to 153 million cubic meters in 2020. The supply of wood is projected to increase from 29 million cubic meters in 2000 to 60 million cubic meters in 2020. The productivity of timber in India is only 0.7 cu. m/ha/year whereas the world average is 2.1 cu.m/ha/year. The supply of timber is mainly from forest plantations and wood production is showing a negative growth rate. In the absence of adequate supply from domestic sources, the nation has to depend heavily on imports to meet its demand for timber. This will increase the nation’s forest footprint, particularly in South East Asia.
In order to minimize the forest footprint, we need to encourage sustainable consumption of timber by promoting forest certification. With the help of GFTN and WWF network, we have actively participated and provided technical inputs to Export Promotion Council of Handicrafts (EPCH) in conducting several supplier summits this year to promote forest certification in India.

Teak Wood
We are please to offer you the finest teak wood, Imported directly from Burma in variety, quantity and specification of your choice. Teak is easily worked and has natural oils that make it suitable for use in exposed locations, where it is durable even when not treated with oil or varnish. Teak is used extensively in India to make doors and window frames, furniture and columns and beams in old type houses. It is very resistant to termite attacks. Mature teak fetches a very good price.
The most salient characteristic of Teak is its resistance to all kinds of weather. Because of this, it is also resistant to decay and easily repels insects. Other characteristics of teak are its elasticity and solid fiber, both of which facilitate woodworking and the ability of woodworkers to create products.

Sal Wood

Sal (Shorea robusta) is a tall handsome tree providing very good quality timber. The bole of Sal tree is erect and cylindrical.Sal wood is one of the three naturally lasting timbers of the Asian subcontinent, the other two being Teak and Deodar. It is difficult to plane and more so to drive a nail in to it. In fact Sal wood is most suitable for all such applications where strength and elasticity are foremost requirements, and where polishing is not so very essential.
Malaysian Sal Wood: The hardest quality in timber world. Water proof. Anti Fungus & Anti borer wood used for door and windows framing. Heavy duty wood for industrial use. Also used in Navy & Docks for supporting the ships. It is better substitute for teak wood. No knots only suncracks if kept in sunlight.
